SAFETY IS OUR #1 PRIORITY

Safety is our #1 priority and BSA takes youth safety very seriously. Every adult participant is required to go through Youth Protection Training (YPT) to help them Recognize, Respond, and Report suspected abuse. Scouts are also required to complete a Protect Yourself program for each rank advancement to help parents discuss this difficult topic openly and candidly.

SAFETY MEASURES

1. Every adult volunteer and staff member who interacts with children undergo a criminal background check

2. Two-Deep Leadership Policy prohibits any one-on-one interaction between adults and youth whether in person, online, over the phone, or through texts

3. All volunteers and employees are required to take Youth Protection Training upon registration and again every two years

4. The Buddy System ensures that Scouts always have a friend with them to make them less likely to be targeted

Volunteer Screening System helps prevent known and suspected predators from registering with the organization

5. Learning and discussing youth protection is also a required portion of the program for youth members

BETTER THAN NOW YOUTH SAFETY

Scouting is safer than ever before. BSA has implemented some of the strongest youth safety measures found in any youth-serving organization and a third-party review showed that BSA's new policies and screening methods have made scouting safer than ever before!
